Antique copper, brass and bronze conservation and restoration

An early 19th century copper samovar
Giltwood mirror

The samovar had suffered several dents, distortions and detachments in a fall, and the decorative relief areas were caked with cleaning product residues. The pair of ivory handles was heavily stained by metal corrosion, and one was broken.

The detached metal parts were replaced, and through careful manipulation the distorted and dented parts were straightened and reshaped. The broken ivory handle was consolidated and both handles were cleaned. The residues were removed and the decorative features were sensitively redefined with protective wax finishing products.
